WATER SERVICEThe Village of Plainfield has Lake Michigan Water. The hardness of the water is 6.3 grains per gallon. If you have questions regarding Lake Michigan Water, please contact the Public Works Department at (815) 436-3577 or review the Water Quality Report.
New residents should visit the Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street, to sign up for utilities (water, sewer, and garbage), and to pick up a new resident packet. Utility applicants will need to bring the completed Utility Service Application, a current (unexpired) Driver's License (or State ID), and one other form of identification when signing up. New customers have 30 days to come in and sign up for utilities. Residents moving within the Village should ensure that any previous Village Utility Bills are paid before new service can be transferred into their name.
Setting up water service in person is necessary because federal, state, and local laws are changing to help protect people from identity theft and increase homeland security.
To close your water/utility service account, please contact the Utility Billing Department at (815) 439-4250 or via e-mail as soon as you have a closing/moving date. When calling or e-mailing, please provide the closing/moving date and a forwarding address.
Please note: Residential scavenger service is provided by Village Ordinance and is billed with the monthly water bill.
Water bills are sent on a monthly basis and rates are calculated per 100 cubic feet (cf).
Water = $6.47 per 100 cf
Sewer = $2.95 per 100 cf
Capital Improvement Charge = $7.00/bill (The capital charge funds the ongoing maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure.)
The minimum bill is 100 cf of Water and 300 cf of Sewer.
If you have any questions regarding your utility bill, please contact the Village of Plainfield at (815) 439-4250 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
The Village offers a 10% discount on the total monthly water, sewer, and capital charge to seniors who qualify for the “Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Exemption” on their property tax bill, as defined by the County Treasurer.
